The Tervuren is a Belgian breed used in sheep herding and was classed as a separate breed from other Belgian Sheepdogs in After the Second World War, the breed had almost died out, but a concentrated effort brought them back. It is now used more as a Sheep dog than any other of the Belgian Shepherding dogs. The Tervuren is an alert, watchful and active breed with an independent streak, making it ideal at herding. They are intelligent and energetic, forming a close bond with their owners and thrive when out working in the field.
This medium-size herding dog breed originated in Belgium where he was used to herd sheep. He later graduated to police work, and today his versatility makes him suitable for many types of work and dog sports. Contrary to popular belief, small size doesn't necessarily an apartment dog make — plenty of small dogs are too high-energy and yappy for life in a high-rise. Being quiet, low energy, fairly calm indoors, and polite with the other residents, are all good qualities in an apartment dog.
Elegant, sporting a lovely basic black coat, the Belgian Sheepdog is not only graceful but versatile as well. This dog is a workaholic in disguise. His work ethic is second to none and he is happiest when he has specific duties to perform.
